Quote of the week A man with a watch knows what time it is. A man with two watches is never sure. (Segal's Law)

The Dutch Elf Fantasy Fair has grown into to a major event in the country for people wanting to be someone different for a day. Being regular visitors we can say it was unsurpassed. A beautiful ambiance, fantastic people, and the best weather in the world. It is difficult to explain what this fair actually is all about, but the pictures will tell the story using all colours of the rainbow.
Every year, at my work, a beginner’s course for flight navigation is being organised by the Flight Club PH-OENIX. There’s a lot of interest, not at the least because a real navigation flight is being organised to bring the lessons learned into practice. I enjoyed a fantastic flight in a single-engine Piper in which four persons can take a seat. Although the weather forecast was not so good, it turned out very well. We saw beautifull clouds (but no rain) and had a fierce wind, which makes navigating more difficult! The flight took off from Rotterdam Zestienhoven to Midden Zeeland. From there onwards to Seppe, and then back to Rotterdam. I was able to shoot some nice pictures.
Since my daughter lives in Spain we have a good excuse to visit this country every now and then. This time we went in February, and I can tell you it was cold, wet and windy. Luckily we have also enjoyed a few warmer days and were able to visit nice places in Portugal like Braga and Guimaraes. If you walk such towns it is as if time stood still. But also contrast; Amazing beauty and incomprehensible rubbish live next to each other. I’ll show you some of the beauty;
Snow is not uncommon for the Netherlands, but it usually does not fall in large quantities … until now. At some place it was more than twenty centimetres. I believe we have to go back to 1979 to find that much. Everything comes to a grinding halt. The mail is not delivered, and the trash is not collected. People are advised to stay clear from the roads, as traffic is a mess. But the children have a lot of fun, as they celebrate holidays now!
Imagine you are married for twenty-five years, and it has been a good marriage … how do you celebrate that? You need some horror! My sister and brother-in-law organised a horror party, and many family and friends came over to congratulate them. And all of this in Halloween style of course. More pictures are on Paul and Petra’s own server. Photo’s were taken by Tineke and Cor Straver.
While having fun at the Elf Fantasy fair in Arcen last September, we were being photographed by lots of people. Likewise, such events draw professional photographers and very skilled photo amateurs too (or I would better call them unpaid professionals). One of those (Gertjan) did some very nice portrait shooting, and you can admire more of his his work at the pixiephoto gallery. This photo just came in via email last week.
